Tablescape Styling
I love creating Tablescapes for different holidays and occasions. I know it can seem intimidating for some people and they don’t know where to start or don’t want to spend a ton of money. You can spend a lot of money on a Tablescape but you don’t have to break the bank to create a beautiful table. I use a mix of new and vintage items in my Tablescapes.
You can find beautiful vintage dishes at estate sales, antique shops, or Etsy/eBay for affordable prices. Also, a lot of us have china from our wedding or that has been handed down. Don’t be afraid to use it. I like to collect different vintage accent plates that I can mix with my wedding China to change it up for different occasions. Vintage glasses are also a fun way to change up your table for different holidays.
Chargers or placemats to put under your dishes help make the plates pop and a good table runner helps create a boundary for the Tablescape items. This is another place where the sky’s the limit on what you can spend on table linens. I have a more expensive linen table runner that lives on my table most of the year but I have cheaper ones for other holidays. Good places to find chargers/placemats/table runners/napkins are home goods, at home, target, local home decor shops (like us wink wink), or if you find a particular fabric you love you can have them custom made. I have chargers from pottery barn, dollar tree and home goods. Dwell & Adorn carries linen napkins, tablecloths and table runners handmade by a vendors from around the world. You can leave plain napkins as is or have your initials embroidered on them for a special touch by your local embroiderer. Also, napkin rings are jewelry for your napkins but are not necessary. We have tons of options at the shop that go with a lot of different holidays. I use neutral ones for most of my Tablescapes and then I have a different set for Christmas.
For the middle of the table, I like to have some flowers either in a tall vase in the middle or a couple of smaller arrangements in shorter vases. Live or faux flowers are up to you. You can use vases you already have or find a vintage or new one that goes with your decor. I like to have a collection of candle holders of varying heights and materials. Maybe some brass, glass, and wooden ones in different shapes. Then I like to get fillers for between all this. Can be eggs and bunnies for Easter, leaves, pumpkins and turkeys for fall, faux flowers or grass, or seashells for summer. This is where you can get creative. I collect vintage porcelain and marble eggs for my Easter Tablescape and mix them with rattan ones I found at target, and a couple of birds nest and bunnies I found at a local home decor store. For Christmas, I have a collection of glass, wooden, and bottle brush trees with some vintage ornaments and holly I sprinkle in.
I have added to all my Tablescapes over time. You don’t have to buy everything all at once. Leave room to grow. That way if you find something you love you will have space to add it. Also, it spreads the cost over time if you have a budget you need to stick to.
